People who work in the financial aid office really need to learn how to lean into the 'aid' part of financial aid. If your job is to constantly be working with first generation, low income students, then you should learn how to talk respectfully and with understanding, and not make these students who are in difficult situations because of no fault of their own feel like it's their fault when the confusing website and/or paperwork is misread or filled out incorrectly. I was crying on the phone talking to 2 different representatives, and both of them just kept telling me that everything was my fault and that basically I was stupid for not understanding how certain forms work. If you don't care about helping students, don't get a job where your MAIN GOAL is to help students. Avoid having to speak to them at all costs.
