Amazing. First of all, the center is a centra location in the city. It is full of information. The staff member was so helpful. There are some items to buy inside for great souvenirs. Get your troll map there before heading out to explore the city. The trolls throughout the city are amazing. There are all types. The city has signs about inclusion.

Quick, competent service. Delightful service person quickly pointed us to local places of interest and gave a few historical tidbits of the area. Great place to stop first in Mt. Horeb. And be SURE to look at the stave in the front yard - a replica of a building in Norway. Really beautiful!

The Chamber of Commerce facility: We had to stop in for directions & could not have been more pleasantly received.

The facility itself is cheerful, well-decorated & spacious. The receptionist did give me an eagle eye when I praised the town, silently warning me that I was overdoing it, but I meant well, & didn't feel as though an indictment for exaggeration was warranted (!). Outside, two ladies were diligently trying to spruce up the flower beds, despite a stiff wind. That's dedication.

As for Mt Horeb itself, by all means go. Picturesque town, nice people. And a godsend after two days of Madison, Wisconsin, the state capital that is just a little too full of itself for its own good.

I'll also add a review here (below) about the museum on Main Street (aka, Routes 18, 78 & 151, temporarily merged), which isn't posted as a designation on the Google Map.

Chamber of Commerce, why not?! (Not referring to the south 2nd St. Museum). There was also a very nice coffee shop I'd like to praise, but they too aren't listed as a designation on the map (again, why not?)

Travel, Wisconsin, Mt Horeb, Museum Review (09/15/12; there in May 2012)

(Originally posted to the wrong museum - evidently, the town has two - & then deleted from the wrong site. We never made it to the South 2nd St. museum.)

I was stunned at how clean, vivid, stimulating & professionally assembled & presented the museum was! The guide told me that a proprietor of an area store decades ago never threw ANYTHING away, & that was the reason why everything looked so remarkably new - sixty year-old cans & jars of merchandise that if you took them down to the local food store, would fit right in with the rest of the goods.

They also went all the way in finding competent, stimulating writers to compliment the displays & the photographs of times past. This doesn't happen often, no matter where you are. I suspected that professional writers & historians might have dropped in to donate their services free of charge, it was that impressive (but then again, there are many talented, unrecognized amateurs who have been known to excel when called upon to contribute).

Well worth donating a $20 bill in the till, at the end of the visit. If you're in the Madison area, DO NOT fail to drive to Mount Horeb for an entire day. The town itself has a lot of pride & provided a great deal of pleasure on this day during our rewarding trip to southern Wisconsin in May 2012. It is also warmly recommended.

A warning to East Coast tourists: The cows.

You won't recognize the cows & the bulls. You might think that you've stumbled across the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade in New York City that failed to stop when they reached Herald Square, & kept on marching to Chicago & points beyond (at which time, the ropes restraining the helium balloon figures were cut loose).

They're 2-3 times the sizes of the spindly little creatures that graze half-heartedly in the meadows of upstate New York, Newark-less New Jersey & New England.

Do not call the police or seek prescriptions for hallucinations - they're SUPPOSED to be that big. Evidently, we don't feed ours often enough.
