I recently read the Life History of Monique K. as told to Anita Hecht. Having known Monique since I was 15, I knew generally about her life story. However, Monique’s memoir provided crisp detail and rich insights into her incredible life. It was written as if she were in the room sharing her stories to me listening in. I was able to share Monique’s history with my friends who know her and they were equally thrilled, excited, and captivated by hearing the voice of Monique through Anita’s amazing storytelling. I would highly recommend Life History Services to those wanting to look back on their lives and pass on their experiences and family history to their children and grandchildren. Last night, I stayed up until about 3 or 4 in the morning listening to the oral history Anita conducted for my mom. The exhaustion I am feeling today is worth it; I literally could not stop listening! Anita did such a beautiful job. I have no idea how she covered such a wide swath of "territory" over these four hours. The way that Anita prepared and expertly (and humanely) drew the stories out of my mom was brilliant. I laughed, I cried, I got to know my mom better. I treasure this oral history. This is invaluable (and will be for generations of my family) and I am supremely grateful.

Also, my mom was nervous to do the oral history - and absolutely loved Anita. This is no small thing. If I could give any number more stars than five, I would.

I have has a long public career including a decade of reforming Wisconsin’s juvenile justice system. The Wisconsin State Historical Society wanted a first person narrative account and hired Anita to help me tell the story. Her interviews were well structured, open enough in style so I had range to tell my story in my terms but professionally guided so the process was thorough and efficient.
