I am a disabled senior on a fixed income in Bakersfield and after I notified my landlord of 5 years that I needed surgery and would require a live-in nurse for a few days, I was served with a 60-day Notice of Termination of Tenancy and then ultimately a Unlawful Detainer.
GBLA responded immediately to my need for assistance in this matter and provided me with important information, advice and legal services.
Attorney Mr. Peter Chang and multiple staff members including Elise, Dailyah, Anna and Yarnell have been especially helpful, respectful and kind.

Unfortunately, this place does not help everyone. I have been dealing with a very bad landlord who is asking for rent that I have paid. I asked for attorney assistance through GBLA as I cannot afford one and they would not help. They did file an answer for me, but that’s it. With all the government funding being given to this company, why can’t people who are being unlawfully evicted get assistance? For anyone like myself who doesn’t know how trials work and you’re going up against lawyers, it’s terrifying. The homeless problem in Bakersfield will only get worse because people are being put out of their homes for no reason other than greed but have no help.

Incompetent staff. Do not rely on them for anything. Staff is unhelpful and not knowledgeable. Please save yourself the grief of finding out this truth and keep searching for advocacy from real professionals. This is not a true organization that helps people.

Website says I should have been in the elligable area, but then I was told over the phone that they only serve inside of the City of Bakersfield and not Kern. (There's a chunk that's excluded in their map but even then I still should have been in their range according to the website)
