- Recently, Frank sent me someone else’s tax documents with their personal information, including the last 4 digits of their SSN.
- Amending my taxes took 10x as long and cost 2x more than estimated. These changes were not communicated until the very end of the process (a grueling 3 months after I first reached out to him). The time delay caused me to pay tax penalties.
- Much of this extra time was due to Frank’s lack of tax knowledge about one of the states I was filing for, which I ultimately had to help clarify for him.
- When he finalized my taxes, I was asked to submit most of the paperwork myself, and I had follow-up questions, which caused him to refile my paperwork to correct his original mistakes. By this point, I was very concerned about the attention to detail put into my taxes, but I had already paid by check and gone through so much work to get there.
- Ultimately, the process was more stress and work than doing taxes myself (and quite possibly less secure now that I know he may accidentally share my personal info with others)
