I dont like leaving bad reviews on a small business, but Chapman accounting completely dropped the ball and screwed me this year. In 2023 I went to Chapman to do my taxes, and they seemed to be very helpful, gave me a few tips to keep track of things and I felt I was ahead of the game for 2024. I ran QB at their advusement because it would be easy to keep track of things in my own small business, and they can login as my accountant to settle everything all in one place. Awesome, right? So in January this year, I met with one of the accountants at Chapman Accounting and got things started. She told me what I needed to send them this year to get everything done, made promises about going through my books etc. so in late January of this year I sent Chapman Accounting my QB login info to correct my books (reconciliation was showing off a bit) and my bank statements to cross reference (as requested), along with what I had so far for tax season. I was told they could go through my books and clean them up for me at an hourly rate. Good deal. I gave them the go ahead and I was started early. After not hearing anything from them for two months, I called in late March, and was told nothing had been started. My books hadn't even been logged into by Chapman Accounting despite having log in info and ample time. I was told by Mr Chapman that "this is a big project", they weren't going to have time to get to it and we would either need to file an extension or we can PRINT OFF my QB to copy and file based on that and I would be taking all the risk of an audit. What!? I was told by Mr Chapman that they dont start anything until they have everything- which would have been nice to know in advance that you can't reconcile my books without having end of year statements on my 3 pieces of equipment (because that was all i was missing). I met with Chapman Accounting early to avoid any issues this tax season and get a head start on my books and they couldnt even do what they said they were going to do. When you hire an accountant they're suppose to have your back, especially during tax time but this place is pitiful. If you don't have the time to dedicate to each client, you have too many clients. Doing what you say you're going to do is a huge thing in the small business world. You'd honestly be in better hands at H&R Block. If you're a small business owner I don't recommend at all. I've since went through my books myself. It took me 3 hours to get reconciliation to $0. I guess on top of doing it all for my business I will also learn how to be an accountant. These people can't.
