The dam is pretty anticlimactic if there’s absolutely no water. I did this easy hike in late January a day after rain and it was still totally dry when I got to it. Still a nice first walk upon entering the park, I suppose.

Was a moderate hike. There was no water there at the dam! We visited on Weekend and wasn’t that busy. Trail was equipped as all with restrooms.

Our first visit to Joshua Tree and we hiked the Barker Dam trail. It was a beautiful stretch and the terrain gorgeous! We didn’t get to see any water though- it was towards the end of summer. Will need to return post a heavy rainfall and see the water front attract all the wildlife.

Really nice trail, short and sweet, well-maintained. We saw the dam and some pictographs, but no water in the dam. It was almost 100 degrees F when we were there, so make sure to bring lots of water, wear a hat and sunscreen, and go in the morning! Nice first stop of the day, great success!

A very enjoyable hiking trail. Most of the trail was easy to hike. In the summer bring water. The winter, you can get away with no water. There are parts of the trail you can climb and get better views. You are not allowed to climb the actual dam. Dam had water when we were there in late March.

Wonderful hike that isn't challenging at all. The most challenging thing is finding parking, and then it's the heat.

The dam is great to look at and the history of it is fascinating.

Trail isn't paved and is a mix of sand, dirt, and rock.

Find it better than hidden valley trail, do not enter with non paved road, it is bumpy
