I HIGHLY recommend hiring Bill Ross of The Opposite of Work as your business coach and consultant. I am a corporate event host, keynote speaker and standup comedian, and Bill has helped me to understand the importance of optimizing SEO, having an effective website design and navigating Google My Business, all of which were foreign and overwhelming to me before we worked together.

Whether you’re an individual working for yourself or overseeing a multi-million dollar business, Bill cares about you and your company’s growth. Plus, he’s easy to work with. That’s why Bill is your go-to coach and consultant!

I want to give a preface to this review that I have worked with some of the most respected advisors-- from entrepreneurs to investors to scholars. Prior to working with Bill, I completed my PhD, started a MIT-based non-profit, and had co-founded a startup with Harvard- and MIT-trained professionals. I received funding for my current company on my own, prior to meeting Bill, and had some fair success from another startup I began prior to my current company. I consider myself underwhelmed (for lack of a better term) by most people who try to give business advice, and honestly find a lot of stuff out there generic and subpar in meeting my needs. It's hard to keep my attention, and I don't usually take the advice of many people... even those I deeply trust and admire.

However that comes across, I wanted to give a bit of context in order to convey how highly I think of Bill.

From day one, Bill has been so focused on addressing not just 'problems,' but root problems-- and making them accessible for me to understand and tackle. He's not just analytical, but he's data driven. One thing I appreciate about Bill is that he is honest no matter what. That means a great deal to me, but more than being honest is being right. He's incredibly experienced and knowledgable about many facets of business, from e-comm to executive sales to stakeholder negotiations.

Perhaps one would think that with such attractive advising qualities, there are downsides... maybe funky personality trait(s)? Refreshingly, Bill has remarkable emotional intelligence. He never makes me feel embarrassed or below him, or that I am wasting his time. There is no ego with Bill, which has been a major disappointment with other advisors I had met with long ago while in grad school when figuring out how to piece together an aforementioned startup. Bill is present, curious, and logical. I feel very grateful and lucky to work with him, and can't say that there is another advisor in any other context that has matched the qualities I have experienced with Bill.

For anyone looking for an advisor who is going to move their business ahead, whether it's in a seed- or growth stage, go with Bill. He will meet you where you're at and take it from there step-by-step. Pretty solid.

He has supported me in a number of ways, including taking steps towards organizing my own business, getting clear on the best path to take and actually putting my ideas into reality. It's been so great working with Bill and I look forward to more sessions. Thanks Bill!

I had the privilege of going being coached by Bill for a year and a half all throughout the pandemic. My different businesses like many others were facing complete disruption and required pivoting, re-strategizing, and reprioritization, and for me as a founder and business owner, the stress of managing everything on top of being a new parent in the pandemic, was overwhelming and paralyzing. Bill was patient, empathetic, compassionate, action-driven, and methodically strategic, having been through many successful lifetimes of entrepreneurial ventures of major highs and lows. He was able to draw from his own experiences and help me see beyond my immediate trials and block out both internal and external noise. Ultimately with his help and strategic prodding, 2020 and 2021 were by far the most profitable years for all my businesses, achieving major milestones, but even more importantly, he helped me understand where my time was best spent, and how to delegate and step away from where my time wasn't optimized. I cannot recommend him higher as a business coach, mentor, and friend, and strongly encourage you to set up an introductory call with him to just meet him yourself! Thank you Bill!

Bill is personable, practical, and passionate about his work. Through his skillful conversation and expertly guided brainstorming, he swiftly helped me derive a more lucrative plan to support my business. This has allowed me to focus my energy more efficiently and create more effective timelines for projects. When we first met, I was stuck in that "can't see the forest for the trees" perspective. Now, I have a birds eye view and a manageable action plan. Thank you Bill!
