Lori Lopez helped me navigate my new tax related investment strategy post retirement and how to off set capital gains, along with my financial planner. I found her advice very helpful. One star loss because up loading files to their portal was awkward at times, and I preferred to have a quick call with her front of office staff rather than wait to speak to a busy Lori at crunch time. If you are comfortable with technology this may not be an issue though. Yes - I would recommend her services.

After working with the same accountant for 15 years, we needed to switch when he retired. We hired Lori Lopez CPA, hoping for a smooth and professional experience, but it turned into the absolutely most stressful and frustrating tax years we’ve ever endured.

From the beginning, the experience was chaotic. There were frequent staff changes, and we had to explain our business to four different people, starting from scratch each time. Communication and process was disorganized, with repeated requests for the same information already provided and endless delays. The process was compounded by many long phone calls, where little progress was made, and I often had to reiterate details I had already provided and the estimate tax numbers we needed were not provided. These constant disruptions made the process unnecessarily time-consuming and emotionally draining.

I repeatedly asked for estimates of costs for accounting services and tax return preparation, but Lori never provided clear answers. She reassured us that her fees would be comparable to or less than what we’d paid previously, but we were blindsided with an $8,000 invoice for QuickBooks entries alone—something I would have done myself had I known the cost upfront. Despite not agreeing to these fees, Lori refused to release our tax returns until we paid in full.

After paying the $8,000, we discovered that none of our accounts had been reconciled. When we asked about this, Lori told us reconciliation would cost extra! This was incredibly stressful, especially given the exorbitant amount we had already paid and without reconciliation I was not able to continue with Quickbooks inputs of my next tax year.

She also advised us to change our business entity but could never provide a clear recommendation on what entity to switch to. Throughout the year, I repeatedly asked for guidance on this, only to be told she was too busy and she would get back to me. Eventually, she claimed she needed to "research" our account to provide a recommendation and that it would cost extra. I was baffled but this, since at this point she had just finished doing our taxes. When I agreed, she later said she didn’t have time and suggested I figure it out myself using LegalZoom.

On top of the accounting fees, Lori charged more than double what we had ever paid in the past for tax return preparation. This combination of excessive fees, lack of transparency, and unprofessionalism made this the most exhausting tax experience we’ve ever had.

By the end of the tax year, we were financially and emotionally drained. To fix the mess, I had to hire another bookkeeper to reenter and reconcile all our accounts, resulting in additional expenses.
I wish I would have read the previous Yelp reviews before hiring Lori!
