I am writing this review of my experience at the Kodiak Raspberry Island Remote Lodge from the perspective of what I was trying to learn about the Lodge prior to booking a few months ago. ||My good friend, Pat, and I were looking for an all inclusive fishing vacation in Alaska. While conducting internet searches we came across the Kodiak Raspberry Island Remote Lodge. The reviews by previous guests were all positive so we sent a message to the Lodge asking about availability. The next morning we received a response from Birch Robbins informing us of availability for 9/19-9/25/2024. We committed to the dates and issued payment. ||Since we had never previously fished in Alaska our first questions revolved around what to pack? The advice received was to plan to dress in layers. I purchased a couple of pairs of fleece long sleeve t shirts and long johns to wear next to my skin. I purchased a lightweight fleece hoodie jacket to wear over the t shirt and fleece sweat pants to wear over the long johns. I also wore a heavy sweatshirt over the lightweight fleece jacket. The Lodge provided a rain suit and boots which I wore over my clothes. While it was windy and cool during my visit I stayed warm and dry.||We were flown to the Lodge from Kodiak in a float plane. Both of us had large suitcases and back packs with a total weight of 50-55lbs each. There was no problem with getting our luggage on the float plane. I must note that the scenery from the plane was breath taking for the 20 minute flight. ||Upon arrival at the Lodge we were greeted by Birch and Tiffany Robbins and other members of their staff. Immediately, we were led to the Fish House and fitted with rain wear and boots. Once we were decked out in rain wear we were led to a boat and introduced to our Captain, Bob, and his mate, Dalton. We then immediately departed for a fantastic fishing trip that resulted in limit catches of Halibut, Rock Fish and Pacific Cod. ||Birch and Tiffany greeted us again when the boat arrived back at the Lodge at approximately 5:30PM. We were offered draft beer and Tiffany led us to our Cabin. There are a total of Six Cabins. Ours had a porch area for storage of boots and rain gear. Inside the cabin was a bunk style bed with a queen bed on the bottom and twin mattress in the top position. There was a bathroom with vanity, shower and toilet located in the middle of the cabin. The other end of the cabin had a standard bunk bed with two twin mattresses. It was very cozy and comfortable. The Lodge, the Cabins and the Fish House have satellite internet service which allows for phone calls and typical internet activities. ||Breakfast is served in the Lodge at 7:30 each morning and dinner is served at 7:30 PM each evening. The food is simply fantastic. I felt like I was eating fine dining quality food each meal. ||Each day the boats depart for fishing at 8:30AM and arrive back at the Lodge around 5:30PM. Your choice of sandwich (you specify the previous day), chips, sodas and fresh baked cookies are on board each day. The Captains (Brian and Bob) worked hard to ensure we caught our limits of Halibut, Rock Fish and Cod each day. When you return to dock the captains and staff clean, vacuum seal and place the catch in a freezer. All we had to do was drink beer, take pictures and watch the cleaning operations. ||While there were other available activities we fished the six days of our visit. Pat asked me during our flight back home if the trip met my expectations? Immediately, I responded that the visit to the Kodiak Raspberry Island Lodge not only met, but exceeded my expectations. I went expecting to catch fish and we basically caught our limits each day. What exceeded my expectations was the personal attention to detail provided by Birch, Tiffany and the staff. Everyone was pleasant, friendly and seemed to always want to make certain our every need was served. I would also have to again comment that the food was simply fantastic. ||I will conclude by writing if you are seeking a truly first class fishing experience, in a remote location, then look no further. The biggest compliment I can possibly offer is that I want to return again next year.
